Class 1A

Wildflowers and Native Habitats


Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. was a leader in fostering livable communities. What project has your club(s) been involved with or implemented that highlights “the pursuit of  environmental sustainability”? Showcase your project by creating a visually compelling video not to exceed two minutes.  Each Zone is responsible for providing an entry whether as an individual, a club or a  collaboration of clubs within their zone and may work together to describe a project that one or more of the clubs have implemented within the past two years that addresses a specific issue in their zone.

GCA Zone III

Healthy Habitat at Home

Project Description: “In the spirit of Frederick Olmsted, clubs are reintroducing native plants, creating pollinator gardens, reducing the use of chemicals, and taking the Healthy Yard Pledge.”

GCA Zone IV

Growing Native Habitats Across the Garden State

Project Description: “Zone IV is growing native habitats across the Garden State. We are restoring biodiversity one garden at a time to feed pollinators and educate communities.”

“Impressive list of conservation projects in Zone IV with the inclusion of Freeman Medal winners.”

“Presentation could have been more creative with a smoother flow and better transition.”

Planting Natives in Wetlands

Project Description: “The members of the Carrie T. Watkins Garden Club demonstrate their Partners for Plants program from collaboration to wetland planting in their state park.”

Wildflower Garden Restoration Project

Project Description: “A thoughtful restoration of an urban park wildflower garden provides conservation, education and recreation, while sustaining a livable, natural space for the community.”

Project Description: “Restoring the Health of Our Ecosystem by Advocating for Native Plants”

GCA Zone XI

A Butterfly Garden in Evanston, Illinois

Project Description: “The Garden Club of Evanston was inspired in 1995 to develop a public city garden that supported pollinator populations, especially butterfly species.”
